A Prayer In Distress Poem by Venkateswaran Krishnan Sreenivasan

A Prayer In Distress

Seized by strife, I am groping in the dark
Unaware of the ultimate reality stark
Unheeding the sane gospel I hark
O’ God! Brighten my path by thy divine spark

Let me keep my poise in weal or woe
And not quiver with fear from head to toe
Take sane precept from friend or foe
In disregard of status high or low

Let me rein in my mind, not let it sway
Under the tempest of events of the day
Reflect on the unwary happenings on my way
And pray to guide me aright and not to stray

Let me keep my physique and psyche in fine finish
Free from the scar of any blemish
They are the tools to fulfill my wish
For a happy life for all I cherish

Shield me from evil thought and deed
May thy eternal light on the right path lead
My failings and foibles do not heed
Like a baby, always thy succor I need
