A Portrait

Gasping I ran
They said I was besotted
Forlorn I wept
In voids I sketched

Closed my eyes
Sotto Voce he said
'Run, Run, Run, Miracles lay ahead'

At the portrait I winced
Stood entranced
So full of life
Yet something's dead!

Their waves into the deep,
She sleeps a charmed sleep:
Awake her not.
Led by a single star,
She came from very far
