A Poet's Lament Poem by Jean Dament

A Poet's Lament

Rating: 4.5

Words, words, words dancing in my head,
It usually happens when I've just gone to bed,
They toss around til I can no longer sleep;
And my thoughts become crowded when in those words creep;
So up I get to pen them down,
Sometimes they even cause me to wear a frown,
It's like a curse that haunts & plays with my mind,
But once complete my poems do leave me joy behind;
So onward the words begin to grow with a definite flow;
And then I can only hope it makes me a better poet as I go.

This is real. This is how one feels when one goes to bed and an idea creeps up. Very nice. Feels related. Thanks for sharing. Congrats.

This is exactly what happens to me. Sometimes I have to get out of bed to write down things that are running around in my head. You expressed it so well in your poem. Congrats for having it selected as poem of the day!

ahhh.....yes, the words that rattle around and steal our sleep. The words that distract us from our work. The words that cannot be denied. Well written, good poet. Congratulations on Poem of the Day.
