A Poem Does Not Know Itself Poem by Shalom Freedman

A Poem Does Not Know Itself

A POEM DOES NOT KNOW ITSELF
A POEM DOES NOT KNOW ITSELF

A poem does not know itself
It is written from a mind not its own
It says what it does
And is what it is
Without being able to ask itself
Why it should live.

A poem is more than all it means
A poem is real when it seems.

This is very beautiful and such pure poetry. I think your poems speak more than most..

I can't entirely disagree, but at the same time I swear sometimes my poems know more of themselves than I ever could. You set my mind into a tail spin with this - which is, really, not exactly a bad thing. Christine

Cute. Real. Alive. I enjoyed it.
