A Place Inside My Head Poem by BiggRich Shuping

A Place Inside My Head

When pain moves into my territory
When tears flood my happiness
And my silence is invaded by violence
When sorrow conspicuously drowns my world
When heartache profusely fills my cup of joy
I take refuge in a place inside my head
Where my soul is immune to harsh realities of this world

A place where I don't have to walk a mile
Before I could move my lips to flash a smile
A place where poverty is an endangered species
And peril a prisoner of harmony
A place in my mind where I could never endure agony
My perfect world of milk and honey
A land of my own, my fantasy

When my every taken breath seems to narrow my death
When I begin to question the very reason behind my birth
And the answer that prevails is slavery
I retreat to place inside my head
Where love and peace are no strangers to my heart
When laughter divorces me without a mere hesitation
And loneliness becomes my rebound friend
A friend who speaks in a language of silence
Uninterrupted conversations that no needle sound can break
When pain takes what it never gave
I take refuge in a place inside my head
Where my soul is immune to torturous realities of this world
