A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words- - Poem by Theodora (Theo) Onken

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words- -

Rating: 5.0

Solitude brings forth reflection
.....Windows once shaded - now open wide
Joys & sorrows of a disconnected past - return
.........Where once undone - i would hide.

Faces of the child that was always me
.....So long ago- that times needs it's wings
To flutter me back into the 'retro' of my being
.........Where each day of my life used to simply sing.

Memories of silver moments - unwritten
.....The familiar smells-the streets-your loving hands
Wrapped in such beauty - undeniable
.........Footprints of sheer joy left in the times sand.

Open doors to sheer innocence are most welcome
......Never the tired-nor worn-in frame of mind
But the innocent joys of children-totally free-just being
.........A mother-a father-cloaked in love most divine! .

Reflection's being what they always are
......Yesterdays some wheres are nowhere to be this day
Tomorrow is simply just another day of older
..........Dappled in the aging of a head full of grey.

Lovely poem, reflecting on wonderful moments gone by. Just a small thing, Theo, picture in the title misses a 't'.

Thank you so much for your very kind words - and also for showing me a major typo...will get that corrected asap.

Lovely reflective poem brought about upon looking at an old photograph. Its funny how a certain scene or image can bring all of it back in the hands of the older version of the child. I love the last line and especially the use of the word dappled. Its a kind of poetic word, but place with a greying head is perfect. Thanks for sharing.

There are so many lovely evocative phrases in this piece, Theo. Then you weave them together to create a tapestry that is not just your childhood but so many of your readers' childhood. It is a bit annihilating to stroll through the family photo album and realize I had forgotten a time, a place, an event that had not the photograph not jogged my memo would not have thought of it again, would have left a piece of myself behind, lost as if never lived. Your poem reminds us to be thankful for a mind that can still remember what it does. Thank you for sharing this gem. .
