A Pearl Poem by Justin Phillips

A Pearl

I open my hands
and let words
spill across the keyboard,
leaking from my
overturned mind
in rainbow slashes
and ocean crashes,
hard as the age old lava
of my vacation island,
sky creeping
and whispers sleeping
dreaming of a future
when I should be
living in the present,
head in the drifting clouds
and feet with
painted toes in the sand,
life is grand
if you reach out
and touch it,
test it, taste it,
believe it
with faith.

Angels descend
on the end
of a prayer, a wish,
an energy vibe
sent out to the world,
I'm just a girl,
just a girl...
with a clatter
and shatter
between space and matter
where Heaven
meets ground
with a sound
like bells in a whirl...
I'm just a girl,
just a girl...
can I really be
a pearl
of this wild
wild
world?
