A Nocturne For Sinners Poem by Edwina Reizer

A Nocturne For Sinners

How do they sleep
with sins on their souls?
A nocturne for sinners
is filled with holes.
These holes are abbreviated
with staccato notes,
making night unfit.

How do they sleep
with sins on their minds?
A nocturne for sinners
always unwinds
their dreams with sounds,
making sleep unfit.

Where are the melodies
soothing and calm?
Where are the phrases
with fragrant balm
to soothe the sinner to sleep?
The nocturne's gone.
It can't be heard.
They'll have to try counting sheep.
