A Mother`s Pride Poem by NITHEESH ANNADANAM

A Mother`s Pride

Rating: 5.0

She tried a lot to stop him from going,
But her son was a stubborn little chap.
'What will happen, oh my child, if you leave me alone
And leave for the battle terrible? '
'Hark, my mother, I will return victorious,
Yes, I will return much more glorious',
'Is a battle more than a mother to you, my child? '
She cried.
He fell on her knees and moaned and then
Stood up and stormed out of the house.

Two years went by and a messenger came there
To the village with dusty streets.
'We have one, we have won', he cried
And the mother smiled a full moon.
'But your son, has given his life
To the country, dear old lady', he spat out.
Those words chilled her heart
And she burst into tears.
She was crying her heart out…
Then she stood up and said, 'I am proud of you my son'.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

It is a poem worth a million thoughts in these days of fading patriotism everywhere. Love for one`s own country is ultimately the test of a citizen`s integrity of character. Though told in the form of an often beaten drum, your tale takes me to the pastoral villages of the sub continent when our ancestors fought for retaining the native civilization mustering strength against the British forces. A fine poem from you Master Nitheesh. Keep going..
