A Lost Pursuit Poem by priyanka choudhury

A Lost Pursuit

Death approaches in ways no one can tell
To me it came as the peal of a wedding bell

How surely it approached, I saw it coming
And yet the institution of mating
Seemed essential….to carry on the life a laughing living corpse
In moments when the stage lights are off
I go back into my stupor
And then it is…
Lights, camera, action…
What a wonderful life….
Phone calls to a proud family
Who have made such a great match for their daughter
To envious friends, who wish they were in my shoes..
Away in the wonderland America.
Beautiful places to visit
Whose loveliness fills the vacuum of the spirit
And then it is again there
Dark and ugly and staring at me.
These days a new enticement is promised
Promise of motherhood filling up the vacuum
But how would lifelessness beget life
And the answers that evade me
How would they appear in the cry of a newborn
I wonder…but still I know
This is another social institution that I understand not
But will go through.
