A Lost Friend Poem by Michael Chau

A Lost Friend

She was cheery, she was energetic,
She had light that could fill up space.
But something or someone in this cruel, cruel world
Was trying to put it out of place.

She was so bright,
She was so fast.
Why would anyone not
Want this great life to last?

She was small,
But mightier then the pen.
Her spirit is as warm now
As it was back then.

She was so young,
With a bright future ahead.
But now her future was cut short,
Because some words were said.

Who, in the world,
Finds pleasure to put someone down?
We are all equals and love one another,
Just stop and look around.

A life was lost because
People wanted to act tough.
But after their bullying ways,
One’s life only got rough.

If you’re reading this,
Stop, think, and open your ears.
And think of what would happen
If someone you knew would just disappear.

Would you feel happy?
Would you feel relief?
I would be hurt
And at a disbelief.

That someone I knew
Had vanished because of words.
How could you think that
Your words wouldn’t hurt?

What you need to do is
Learn from your mistakes.
And now is your chance
To do whatever it takes.

To mend some broken hearts,
To heal the ones who are wounded.
To speak up for what you have done,
And show that you have a conscience.

But we must look on the bright side,
The bullying has stopped for now.
But with one act of disrespect,
Others will be put down.

So learn from mistakes of others,
And be kind to those around.
Before you know it they can be lost,
And can never be found.

She had a bright future ahead,
But her life had skipped to the end.
Kelsey Thompson was not just a lost angel,
Kelsey Thompson is a lost friend.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is in memory of Kelsey Thompson from my high school who had recently taken her own life because she was bullied. I want her to know how much she meant to this world and that I will miss her and hope for the best. I wished that I could've seen her or at least recently contacted her. You don't really know what you're missing until it is gone forever. #RIPKelsey.
