A Letter To Himself Poem by Toshie Nohara

A Letter To Himself

Dear me,
Am feeling a bit strange already
addressing myself this way
I am a man who always wants
doing things MY WAY
Must admit I do get big-headed
most times
When people say I am a kind husband
sometimes
Am so used to be called 'Papa' by
by our three daughters
I like to hear 'Hello Grandpa'
from my grandchildren
Wife thinks I am too fussy
about many things
She hopes I can relax and sing
But I WANT MY FREEDOM to do
what I like mostly
And won't admit my pride and stubborness
to my family
Won't change my decision once I have made
up my mind
Even better suggestion from my family
of any kind
is useless

It's being eight years since I retired
Feel happy when I am admired for
my cooking
In the kitchen it's exciting
Concocting dishes is fun for a pasttime
Newspaper and I-Pad occupy most of
my free time
Family complain I don't talk much to them
Now I wonder whether I am to be blamed
Perhaps it's my nature.

Love,
Me.
