A Hound Keeps Hope Alive Poem by Stephen Katona

A Hound Keeps Hope Alive

Rating: 4.0

A dog called La China,
Saved a baby boy in Argentina,
On a chilly night in 2008,
After hearing the crying neonate.

With only teeth to drag,
And an old rag,
She put this babe so alone,
Beside six puppies of her own.

Called Hope, or 'Esperanza, '
Focus of this heart warming drama,
I think he might have died,
Without a puppy on each side.

Weighing less than nine pounds,
He needed warmth from each hound.
In a place where everyone was poor,
A mother's love kept him secure.

Abandoned like the founders of Rome,
Here dog instead of wolf gave him a home.
