A Happy Retreat Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

A Happy Retreat

Rating: 5.0

A happy retreat

Sultry summer day;
Cloudless deep blue sky
And the day felt hot and dry
Becoming unbearable this hot July
Away from dusty and hot streets
My soul seeks to take refuge
In a cool cloistered place nearby
So into wood with sequestered walk
Ventured out to hide in a cooling shade
And as I entered, deeper I strayed
Into a spot of dense trees of which
Leaf-laden branches gracefully bend
And saw close by a murmuring cascade
And the cooling breeze and clear blue sky
And the dreamy brook flowing nearby
And my soul spellbound with stilling sound
And charmed with pleasing scenes around
And above tree-tops sitting little songsters
Delivering melody free and fair
And there lay a little pond
Looking like nature’s water reservoir
Serving fishes, insects and all, living with her
As my happy hours in the wood
Quickly coming to an end
A grasshopper near the pond
Sitting on grasses, looking pleased, I spotted
And the attention of a frog on it,
Unwavering and pinpointed
When suddenly an eagle above sighted
All fell into silence
The frog jumped into the pond
creak, creak, creak, the grasshopper sounded
And with its mate flew away to happy land
Me back home happy and recharged
And nature's rural sweets my retreat delivered........

This is just lovely Deepak.... In the sweltering heat, a hide out in Nature's wilderness is cooling and equally mind filling with the song of birds, the music of the running brook and chirping of crickets! Enjoyed much... A 10 for this sweet write!

The charms of nature have ever been our fortress of imagination and here you have done a superb job of a poet. The diction, the style and the very structure go hand in hand and this poem is one of the best on nature over this forum.
