A Goldfish Poem by Cathy Shao

A Goldfish

Rating: 4.5

A goldfish pounded the container
She beckoned me to go near
She opened her mouth
Closed it
Then opened it again
She talked while she looked at me through the glass wall

'What did you say”I asked
I heard her
But I could not be sure
For who would believe that a goldfish can talk
She was disappointed and swam away
What she had said was,
'Let me be free”

A wonderful poem, Cathy Shao! What she had said was, 'Let me be free” Thanks for interpreting the language of the gold fish. Very few of us can understand the language of a canary bird, a caged animal or an aquarium fish. You may like to read my poem, 'The Small Sparrow And The Small Lesson'.
