A Fitted Homage To The Victims Of The Regime Poem by Hebert Logerie

A Fitted Homage To The Victims Of The Regime

Rating: 4.7

The poor victims were our friends, sisters
Our brothers, parents, teachers
Our peasants, poets, writers
Our professionals, artists, farmers
Our soldiers, officers, prisoners
Our altar boys, priests, shoemakers
Our merchants, accountants, gardeners
Our nurses, physicians, pastors
Our cooks, unemployed, and ancestors.

All, all were the victims of the old regime
All tortured and killed for having committed no crime
Their presence was awkward for such a brutal dictator
They were arrested in the streets, on the harbor,
At the church, market, school, cemetery,
hiding in the cellar
They were chased all the way to the border
Today and tomorrow belong to them,
To the victims, to the angels who are eternal
Let's remember them, let's light the perennial flame
Today the world is offering to our Heroes a well deserved solemn homage
Today is a new era, let's turn the new page
The cunning tyrant is gone, he's rotting in hell ad vitam aeternam,
Like other notorious criminals: Idi Amin, Hitler and Saddam
Our God is powerful and patient; he feels, sees all
And protects the innocent, the weak, the brave, and the crazy.

The victims were our friends, mentors
Our friends, children, sponsors,
Our angels, elderlies, actors
Our parents, musicians, singers
Our volunteers, innocents, leaders
Our pagans, pedestrians, martyrs,
Our teachers, poets, supporters
Our politicians, allies, ministers,
Our police, candidates, and ancestors.
