A Dream Within A Dream - Poem by Lilly Emery

It's cold, cold September
suddenly a taxi arrived my way
An abrupt end to it, no more time
For a kiss of bless
because it is a night of darkness
I waited on the walk of dreams
I walked alone with emptiness running in my mind
my heart had been broken
it has blinded my sight of happiness
Oh how I loved him
but I didn't love his lies
He kissed me upon my brow
And, in parting from me now
We end just like the raving wind
When love touched my heart
His kiss caressed at my skin even within
Now all I hold within my heart is the
Coldness of the dark
My days have been a dream
Yet all hope has flown away in a night
My day's are gray
In a vision, or in none
Is it therefore the less gone
All that we see or seem to see
Is but a dream within a dream
I hold on to the love I once known
I stand on a lonely street in Paris hoping
To find a drink of passion in a cup
I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand and a old wedding band
Through my fingers to the deep
While I weep- while I weep over him
Oh God I need your love
I cannot grasp the pain in my heart
'Oh God, please save me from the pain he gave me
The night he had gone away from me
Is all that we see or seem could it all be
A dream within a dream
