A Dream I Had Poem by John Dillenger II

A Dream I Had

In the darkness of night I once had a dream
An escape from the terrors of the day
In my dream things were not as they seem
Things already gone in life had not gone away
You were still here with me
Holding me close to your heart
Your beautiful eyes I could see
The fire in my eyes began to start
The love you'd shown me was all I could feel
Your warmth against my ice cold skin
And when you left my heart turned to steal
No longer in my right mind to win.
I cannot win this fight without your strength
I've left my happiness behind
I travel down this long roads length
Searching for the savior of my mind
I pretend I'm strong enough outside
But in me I know the truth
My emotions are a raging tide
The sting of the bite with sharpened tooth
I ask you now as I've asked before
Come home to me if you can
My mind is shattered, my body sore
But if you're coming here still I stand
For now again I have no dreams
The nights filled with only the dark
For now the season's changed it seems
The winter fading the call of the lark
I shiver now in the cold ice and snow
Thinking of what I might have dreamed
Thinking of what I'll never know.
