A Dog's Life Poem by Julia Robinson

A Dog's Life

Rating: 5.0

Mr Big Foot
escaped his tender
with beloved cleverness
running free
til the leash snagged on the
corner of the front door step.
Stuck, in his mind
he’s not got the savvy
to go back over his tracks
to unhinge his errors;
Bemused,
I push on.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
How long have I stayed in the same space, unable to see my past actions, unable to free myself from past deeds, past emotions? Oedipus understood the Sphinx as the ability to see ourselves through time, but he didn't comprehend that he was the person creating his own problems until it was too late. Being a cyclist, I know how difficult it is, once we are in a rhythm, to even slow down, let alone go back (god forbid!) ...but sometimes it is the wisest way.
