A Dedication (For A Friend's Mother) Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

A Dedication (For A Friend's Mother)

Rating: 4.0

In death all is still
A 'quiet storm'
If I am allowed to borrow
That one phrase from another...
How desolate the feeling must be
When death claims one so dear
As 'Mother'

Three quarters of a century...
How wonderful God in his infinite
Grace to make this so...
And yet the constant question
Plagues those who shared her love,
Just why did she have to go?

Seek solace in the warm memory
Of her love - kindnesses to
One and all...
She had no plan to leave you,
But she heard the heavenly call...

Hold on to loving memories,
Let them lighten the burden so
Heavy on your heart.
Believe, though a mother's love
Is silenced in death from expression,
It lingers on,
From this you cannot depart...

Only from the warmth of her bosom,
And loving arms, does death separate
All of you from one so treasured,
But memories, you can share, will
Linger on, and though in death
Time stands still,
In loving memory, time has no measure.
