A Dark July Night Poem by Nicole GravellPellerino

A Dark July Night

She walks alone
on a dark, and humid
July night,
her ear buds in
and music playing
to past help the time,
she cautiously looks back
and suddenly she sees sparks fly,
and hears the muffles popping of a gun,
in the distance
she hears the faint whispers
of someone crying out
in unimaginable agony and pain,
two men dressed all black yell out in to the night,
'STOP GET HER SHE'S SEEN TOO MUCH! ! ! '
they have seen her, she must get away,
she is being chased,
She screams out in terror,
and her heart quickens with fear,
she is running faster than she ever has
but she know its not fast enough,
they are too quick,
trembling with fear
she fumbles to dial 9-1-1 on her cell,
screaming, begging, and crying to the operator
'Please send help now! ! ! They'll kill me'
and the police are on their way,
but the black dressed men are catching up fast
and she know the police will never make in time
the foot steps of her pursuers
catch up, its too late,
they wrestle her to the ground
and the two men draped in black
commit another murderous deed
and slip into the dark July night,
never to be seen again
She gasp one more time as she lies dying scared and alone,
on the cold hard cement in a pool
of her own blood,
the police find her lifeless cold body
moments later,
They wonder if only they had arrived sooner
maybe they could have saved her,
An innocent young women,
whose only crime was
being in the wrong place at the wrong time
in a dark and humid
July night

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This came to me one night at work when I was working the second half of my double shift around 2 am. When I reread what I wrote I was surprised. It has been sitting around for month now. So why not post it
