A Cookie Jar Poem by Heather Burns

A Cookie Jar

Rating: 1.0

Thinking I know you
But not for sure

being cautious
I will not allow

my hands

To get caught in a
cookie jar.

This a clever poem and the cleverness is delightful. I can imagine a lot of situations where such caution would be crucial. But the cookie jar along with the tree of fruit in Paradise are two familiar compelling images of temptation. Thus, there is a tension in the poem: What will prevail - the need to be on best behavior or the temptation of sweetness? wisely, you let our imaginations play with the possibilities.

Nice poem to remember before developing close relationship with acquaintances. Cookie jar is a nice image to recall. Beautifully said. Thank you.
