A Cold Heart Poem by Asma Khan

A Cold Heart

You held my hands in the middle of chilled night,
handed me my heart back,
saying good bye but
you have not seen the winter in my heart
when iced mountains of loneliness stood stiff
and your shadow grew weaker and weaker on a sunny day.

That moment of separation taught me
how much I loved you, how much I wanted you,
I and you have taught me that
how much you love your ego, how much you are with yourself.

The sky was pale and showered cold gushes of winds
over my ruined destiny, patting my bent back with
chilled waters, mixing my tears with it.

The ground was wet with my tears and cries
hearing me sobbing over my loss and defeat in love,
it gently carried me under a shaded tree
bending over me and promising a future of light and shines
