A Clowns Smile Poem by Brenda Harper

A Clowns Smile

Rating: 4.5

Through a clowns eyes I see
He is not as happy as you may think.
He smiles and laughs all awhile he cries and dies
His tears are where no one can see, maybe just me.
Why he laughs and jokes I do not know,
His misery will always grow.
His shoulders are broad
But with burdens from me and you
People laugh and make fun of him.
For that’s the clown that no one can seem to see
So much hurt, pain and misery.
So please when you see a clown
Give him not but a frown
Laugh so he can laugh too
For that’s all that clowns will ever know how to do.

This reminds me of a Chinese clown I saw at Disney World at Orlando, Florida in May this year. He was very nice, ever smiling and cheerful. Who knows, behind his smile may lie hidden tears! Thanks for the nice poem. It touched me.
