A Charm Poem by robert dickerson

A Charm

Rating: 5.0

My lucky charm. I've lost you
for good, in the pleats of this sandy beach,
for where yesterday you slid from my shoe
the greedy waves now reach.
Such luck in love you brought me nightly
when I touched you to my trembling lips
or pressed you desperately and tightly
between my fingertips.

I only hope the one who spies
you gleaming in the morning sun
quickly discerns your tender properties
and comes to bless the one
whose bitter fortune was your loss,
and, clutching you, drowsy, falls asleep
from time to time still curious
to know his fate.
