A Candle And A Prayer Poem by Marquita Lawson

A Candle And A Prayer

Rating: 5.0

I’ve watched you suffer, my sister wanting to let go
To be with our Savior and Father and I know
You’ve sorted through all the years that have passed
Asking questions and praying this wouldn’t last
Through it all you’ve been strong, with your faith shining bright
So I pray that your prayers are answered tonight.

I lit a candle for you, sister, in the darkness tonight
And prayed God to take you by dawn’s first light
To end all your struggling to give you rest
But most of all did I tell you the best?
It’s to walk with our Savior And Father of Love

Dear Jesus, You know that I don’t understand
How one moment we’re talking and holding hands
It happened so quickly it seems so unreal
I don’t know what I expected I don’t know what to feel
But I know that I trust You more than ever before
To take her home gently she stands at Your door.

I lit a candle for you, sister, in the darkness tonight
And prayed God to take you by dawn’s first light
To end all your struggling to give you rest
But most of all did I tell you the best?
It’s to walk with our Savior And Father of Love

Spirit lift her up
Spirit take her home
Jesus take her burden
She’s one of your own.
