A Bird I Saw Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

A Bird I Saw

A bird I saw
Hopping
Hopping
From bough to bough
In the ecstasy of joy
That it had since the Dawn.
Ah! my Monsignor,
The Soul, the Inner Soul
Of us
Needs so many times
The quiet of reflection
The thin density of solitude
A lens that thick
That thin,
Not more:
Small feet and
The small noises
Ah! these
The genesis of the larger
Thoughts.
A bird I saw
Hopping
Hopping
From bough to bough
In the ecstasy of joy
That it had since the Dawn.
