A Better Day. Poem by Ananya Guha

A Better Day.

The day was uneventful asever
no deaths, is it a matter of time
an equipoise?
Some people are clamouring outside
for their rights I guess
damn rights, in this country we are all civil
we are secular, democratic and we are not unknown
citizens. When sometime oneis killed by a bomb blast
anonymity unfurls into the known.
The day was uneventful, punctuated by poetry
and glossy magazines to read, also the newspaper's blaring
headlines of how someone is picking a fight with the Prime Minister.
I know this will be forgotten tomorrow.
What will not be is the ubiquitous death errands that do rounds
or murderous rape, or how to be uncivil in Parliament.

The nation and the day interlocked in histories.
Damn them. Put blinkers onyour eyes and shout at beggars,
write memoranda, protest on the internet. Everyone will applaud.

Not the day,
Not the night
not me.
The day will end in cycles and people will be hell bent
on the next government raise in salaries.
To understand a better better day.

Fantastic poem, so aptly describing the ways of the people in this world, doing all kinds of heinous crimes, wanting attention on the news and in headlines. Clamoring for raises by government employees, yet never doing anything to earn the money, people still suffering outside the government offices. Great portrayal of life in our world. Thank you for sharing. RoseAnn
