8 Drowning In Your Eyes Poem by Bill Smith

8 Drowning In Your Eyes

I know I should not do this
Pen feelings to the page
But you have touched a heart grown cold
Slipped a finger through the cage
Feet on the ground I dare to dream
Eyes gazing to the sky
Wondering has a God above
Crushed alone until I die

It would be all too easy
To bestow you angel’s wings
I have fallen many times before
For far less wonderous things
It wouldn’t take a giant leap
To surrender to your smile
To wash away the barricades
Come out from behind denial

So given time, if luck were mine
And life for once plays fair
I’ll get the chance
To maybe kiss
Each freckle that you wear
And yes it seems a clichéd phrase
Never the less it’s true
I looked across a crowded room
And all I saw, was you

If dreams come true and some they do
My past littered with lies
I’ll spend some time in warm embrace
Drowning in your eyes
