.5. When I Was A Lad Poem by David Threadgold

.5. When I Was A Lad

Rating: 5.0

In the fifties and sixties
When I was a lad
I had lots of mates
And what fun we all had

We didn’t have much
But we knew how to play
An old bat and ball
Kept us busy all day

Pop bottles for tuppence
The sweet shops took back
Swopping for chews
Like my favourite black jack

In time we made bikes
That would take us on trips
Jam butties and pop
Swigged by endless dry lips

Some say times were hard
But our lives weren’t bad
In the fifties and sixties
When I was a lad

Nice poem David. I remember the times very well, and wrote a similar one - 'Those were the days'
