it's been a time
49 years
i have been with you
and dealt
what you are and what
you wish to become

i have looked at you
eye to eye
on the very same mirror
where i many a time cried
and swore
that i must move on and be
what i want to become at all cost
keeping this life
and living it well

i have kept the lies just that you may live
and i will not change it
time indeed has mustered all the courage
and faith
time indeed has made me the master of
this self

and now i look at you eye to eye again
and i am not afraid to blink
and then to stare

long and live
consistent and confident
