#356 The Wall Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#356 The Wall

Much like I was, she was scarred
And searching for repair.
Love had severely burnt and charred
Our hearts within its flare.

She found comfort in gentle arms,
I found solitude and poise.
She was a sucker for my charms,
I was enthralled by her ploys.

The world was spinning much too fast,
We felt so confused and small.
But all our worries became the past
As we advanced through The Wall.

The summer breeze was thick and warm.
The moonlight made crickets sing.
Above dark clouds began to form,
But we didn't notice a thing.

We loved, we wooed, we kissed a while.
We exchanged vows near the lake.
But the wind became more hostile
And the jackal howled awake.

His bellow was closer than ever,
And much louder than before.
All of a sudden forever
Wasn't that long anymore.

Then the jackal snatched her with his squall
And she vanished without a moan.
I turned and started toward The Wall
And I walked back through all alone.
