23 - The Road Poem by nicola burkett

23 - The Road

I’ve been traveling down this road for years
Along the way so many smiles so many tears
Don’t know where it goes or where it ends
Along the way I’ve left behind family and friends
The road I follow has many sudden twists and turns
While the heat blisters the soles of my feet as the tarmac burns
The road I travel upon leads me to where I’m heading
To that final resting place where I’ll lay my bedding
The road is the place that shows where I’ve been
It holds the memories of the pain and pleasure I’ve seen
My road not made of yellow brick but chrome
It’s a road that will always lead me home
