(2) To My Brother´s Dog, 'Perrina' Poem by Luis Gil de la Puente

(2) To My Brother´s Dog, 'Perrina'

Rating: 2.9

The first day you woke me up,
did you open the door
or did I leave it open?

How could you know?
There were blinds
on the windows
and yet you knew
that was the first snow
of a long winter,
“it´s a clear winter morning,
let´s go and enjoy the snow”.

You knew
when to touch my hand
to tell me
life is waiting
let´s go play.

You knew
the best definition
for happiness.
Open your eyes and enjoy.
Let´s go play.

You knew
the exact measure
of truth,
of danger.

The secret
must be
the smell.

You capture the joy of a winter morning in Perrina's company with eloquence and grace. Merry Christmas, Luis. Happy to have met you in your poetry. Have a great 2009. And may the music never end. Always your friend at poemhunter, Sandra

I like your poem, dear poet Luis Gil. You feel the dog like Neruda in his poem 'My dog died' (which I have translated in greek) . Your poem has a nose (the dog's nose) to smell the enjoyable beauty and also the danger and truth of life. I give it a 9...but you are cabable to reach soon a full 10++, dear Luis Joseph S.
