1987 Poem by Justin Gildow

1987

We run up and down barefoot through the street
We're both dazed and happy in this world
Bubblegum heroes pull us through the day
Sparks of magic fizzle in the sky
As we climb trees

We're pushing our youth to the extreme
While trying to live out our perfect childhood dreams

Daydreaming as the hot sun burns our feet
As we on down the block
You say to me ' Some things I have a hard time believing in. But can you show me something to believe in '
I say ' I don't know, but I can try '

Ice cream dreams
Lemonade times
It's all a perfect scene
Underneath the sunshine
At this age we're so set free
As we swing from branch to branch, tree to tree
Our youth has it all for us
Our youth has given us a friendly trust
Our youth has given us independence
Or at least the feeling of being free
And that has made all the difference

A very pleasant and nostalgic look back. Interesting how we freeze these moments and keep them, given that we aren't aware of doing so at the time. Don
