187. School 1992 Poem by Jaden Knight

187. School 1992

Blood drips from both noses and fists
the two boys watch each other carefully
like a hunter staring at his prey
both with torn trousers
and ripped bloodied white shirts

The crowd surrounding want more punches
but neither seems inclined to continue just yet
happy enough to circle around
wiping tears from their eyes
waiting for the next hit to come

The dark haired boy charges the other
knocks the blond boy to the floor
he starts punching left and right to the face
cheered on by the spectators

Eventually the blond boy is let up
the fight is over and he has lost
the other boy shakes his hand
and disappears to avoid the teachers
leaving his opponent crying
as the others disperse

Tomorrow it will begin again
maybe with different opponents
maybe next time it will be my turn
you never can really tell
in the school playground of the past

moving portrayal of the future for some i suppose. i can't help but wonder what was behind the fight. it sounds a bit like it was an accepted (by the boys) part of the curriculum! i'll send this one to MyPoemList. well reported! ============================= p.s. care to send this or any other poem to be in my February or March showcase? just send the title(s) to me for A Showcase For PH Poets. Here is what i have so far for February. there is no firm end date for submissions, but maybe not later than the first week in March for this showcase. then i'll put together a new one, and poets again will be able to submit a poem (or two) .. bri ;) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1. Sad reminder of days past, and not as long ago as 1992 for me.
