155. Blood Drips From The Open Palm Poem by Jaden Knight

155. Blood Drips From The Open Palm

Rating: 3.0

Blood drips from the open palm
the hand silently cries
due to the pain it received

The knife passes blamelessly
slicing deep through already heavily scarred skin
before moving on to the soft flesh of the wrist
unaware that it is doing any wrong
the hand that holds it is at fault
but won't suffer any punishment

People would say the wielder needs help
but won't do a damn thing about it to ease their pain
sometimes all they need is a little support
a comforting voice in their world of chaos
just to show them that someone cares enough about them
to make them put down the blade

sometimes all they need is a little support a comforting voice in their world of chaos Imagery much penetrating yet poet strict to depict a doctrine.

No man is an island We need someone to lean on.. Someone (partner) who is always around ready to lend a helping hand when you needed them most... -who will support us...who will carry us everytime we fall...

well, i can't quote statistics, but i'd venture to say that most people who do damage to themselves, as in the poem, do it when people aren't around to intervene. and when they aren't cutting themselves, unless they walk around 'SAYING' i'm going to cut myself, it is not obvious that cutting is a predictable event. i knew a young man years ago who was in a mental hospital. he told me that sometimes 'voices' told him to cut himself. he had scars. i guess that is different from many people who get depressed, maybe get high on something, and finally decide to cut themselves. john seems to come down hard on 'people' for not doing anything to prevent such acts, but am i or you supposed to stop our daily routine and try to talk to and watch someone because they might have a problem which will cause them to resort to cutting? i don't think so. [[[ after rereading that, i remind myself that i had a volunteer position this past year with a teenaged boy who carried a knife, talked about zombies and using a homemade bow and arrows to kill zombies, and who reportedly may have cut his own face before i knew him. he also spent many, many hours holed up in his bedroom, not wanting his mother to come into the room, while he went online to 'survival' sites and listened to music that would be upsetting to some people. Finally, i DID write about two pages about this kid and gave a copy to the local police department. i don't know what they did, though i believe they had previously intervened when he hit his mother. his father was not in his life at all. the kid was a nice kid, otherwise! he decided to not continue in the mentoring relationship we had started. ]]] after several well-publicized mass shootings here in the united states, there have been reports that the shooter may have been a loner, maybe dressed in an unusual style, maybe was bullied, maybe this and maybe that, but at least in some cases, mass-shooters were not, apparently, thought of as on the verge of an atrocity. in a similar way, i believe people who end up cutting themselves, or otherwise hurting themselves OR others are not walking around with a sign saying I'm going to kill myself/people. agree, disagree? ? ? bri :) John, the poem is useful. thanks for sharing. :) bri
