12-13 Poem by Rick Elpers

12-13

Rating: 5.0

As another looms ahead
Do we inspire hope
Or are we dragged down under
The weight of existence
Plants and animals have no notion
But day to day survival
Yet we push attention
On the calendar as necessary
And when it's all over
You'll find the wasted effort
To feel restored
Through celebration absurd
Or maybe the extra color
And shiny objects touch
Even the most distraught soul
A flicker of hope towards all that
We fear in the oncoming year
Have a tolerable NewYear! !
