. Poem by J.M Berger

.

if we could hide
we'd hide
but lightning flashes and the light reveals us
as dark figures
so reviled
unique but reviled by ourselves
and this mirror is a river
the river of our lives
we were thrown in against our will
nearly drowned, are maybe drowning still
but until they pull us up unconscious
a twinkle in our watery eyes
then we've still got a chance
of fighting the crushing tide
