end of Mars

Poet's Notes about The Poem

End of Mars

The wind that blew through
the open window
was not sweet spring air.
Hard eyed and frosty, killing
sparrows in their nest; sheep
are overcome by snow
and breakfast is cold on my plate.
It wasn’t going to promise a thaw
or an eternal spring for all.
So shiver, this is reality,
no easy ride to a summer fair.
