She came in with eyes as opaque
as the horrors in her mind.
On her lips a taste of snowflake
turned to stinging seas of brine.

I've been to forever
and I've been back again.
And never is a long long time
to be without a friend.

Empty Aldi tins in the rubbish bin
Still make me think of you
Leave my trolley in lose my lollies in
The supermarket queue
...

I used to watch you dance
across the family verandah
in the cool of an afternoon storm
And you would hide your hair
...

I’m sitting with the driver girl
Who brought our bus to Delhi
And she tells me that she goes by
The name of Kaylee Kelly.

Somebody told me late last night
You were sneakin’ out in the mornin’
Somebody told me late last night
You were creepin’ out with the lawman

You are the lightning rod of my life
You are the endless feeling of flight
Melanie
I keep you in my heart

You are my runner
You are my rest
You are my keyboard of smiles on
the piano of happiness.

The hurt in your eyes knows my sympathy
But the impressions I gained have departed.
I grasp your sorrow but it drains my heart
And leaves my emotions retarded.

The Girl Who Swallowed The Dark

She came in with eyes as opaque
as the horrors in her mind.
On her lips a taste of snowflake
turned to stinging seas of brine.

He came for her at every age
as she hid the world she knew.
And lit a mournful haunted rage
only sorrow could renew.

With a wretched wanton rancor
the brutality was sown.
Tying her eternal anchor
to a buried bag of bones.

I cry for her on sunny days
I weep for her at sunset.
Sometimes I want to run away
to a girl I haven't met.

But then I hold her in my arms
and bear the dark together.
She knows I will keep her from harm
and I shall wait forever.
