Opeyemi Borisade Poems

Yesterday, we found comfort in eachother's hearts
And grace in eachother's arms as though for eternity
How so soon the clouds gather at winter
As distrust plants its seeds in the womb of our minds
...

Yesterday, I slept off in the arms of love
Just before the voice of the owl will hove,
the flapping wings of birds seeking where to hide
& voices lowered as the lights went dim...
...

In my picture when I sleep at night
Down by the rivers when the moon's at height
When the waters are cool & so thrill
Or the sounds I hear holds my breath still
...

I was too engrossed in my sleep
To notice the sun crawl up over me
Its sweet kiss on my bare skin
lured me into the unfolding today
...

It's saddening to see the roses wither
It's depressing to see its petals turn brown
Leaving a once jazzy world wanness to fill
& the fragrance of its being fade with the breeze
...

Away from Eden's floor where all green arise
Far from the Euphrates, the searing soil baked my root
Sweat from my forehead vanished at the lips of my foot
& I dry as one who pulls arrow at the firey sun
...

Here she is once again
Fresh as if newly sprout
Unyielding to age as ever
Her features, firm as one carved from stone
...

The sun's firey they say
The moon without its own light
Some creatures shy from the brightness of day
& find refuge under the blanket of the night
...

I'd always thought me to be immortal at heart
A being of unyielding emotions
Piercing through the nets of affection with the edge of my will
Standing sure & confident only in I
...

The moon spread a news
Of great love anew
In a country wherein
Strenght dwells therein
...

Who knows where my angel hides?
Who can tell where my treasure lies?
Who can bring me the one that starve my eyes?
Though she be gone, yet thrills me like ice!
...

I've been here many times before
Just once, but everytime at four
Minding not eachday a dose of this pain
If tomorrow you'll be here again
...

I've strayed through the passages of life & love
Felt its hot & cold winds blow
It's awesome fangs not a bit suspending
And my heart'll shrink as if to extinct
...

Twice or thrice today the rainbow shone after tender showers
Thrice or four times I'd seen a gang of white horses in the skies
The fifth time yet I count of the eclipse casting gentle blue light
As I pluck the sixth string on my little guitar's chest
...

How does one qualify the stripes of the rainbow?
How do you value the rising morning sun?
How do I explain you matchless beauty?
Or qualify your excelling charm, my queen?

Farewell

Yesterday, we found comfort in eachother's hearts
And grace in eachother's arms as though for eternity
How so soon the clouds gather at winter
As distrust plants its seeds in the womb of our minds
Now yesterday'll fade as if never it was
And today fills with dark scary clouds
The bridge between us I fold for good
And bid you farewell from this shore forever.
