Oni Omotayo Poems

O Dearest, Say me well to love…
Make for her a sweet smelling savor
Wipe her tears for she bewail again the fall of her sons
Today, her tent is set afar…
...

The smiles are far and away,
There remained not a date for a sweet past
It's bygone, such days that never return
I thought we had a journey to make
...

Pity and shame O helpless souls!
So sad glancing within this valley
The doom of stardoms, pit of ravage glories
Sad fate of tyrant and unjust rulers
...

Give me the mystic vesture
Bequeath to me the circlet of poethood
Come there is a thought in my heart
Come there is a mystery I love to share
...

Fairy and comely I called thee,
Princess of eminent kingdoms
Beautiful is thy queen mother
Magnificent is the royalty of thy father
...

I had a dream so tender and young
A dream filled with the colors of love
A dream of a fairy, who made her nest in the stars
The imagination of a poet and the longings of my story
...

These I write with the dawning breath of a new day
To the beauty not yet seen
To the hand not yet held
But for the praise of thee whispered
...

...And the sun finally set into the west
The hours of grace flapped her wings into her nest
The end is here, the heroes are gone
The time is set upon the bridge of hope
...

If there be a thing just in war
May you stand and fight for it
If there be a thing fair in love
May you stand and live for it
...

I thought it well to write of thy grace
But thy iniquity I cannot conceal
Has our insolent darkness not been your deeds?
You forge alliance with foes and breeds affinity with thy enemy.
...

Like a treasure hunter he came from no where
Prancing he walked with pride on his face
Oh indeed! The jungles has offer its finest gift
He has caught a beautiful bird in the comfort of her nest
...

So many questions sit itself on the meaning of life
And much answer escapes our little philosophy
Love is like the worthless piece left in the stowage
Roaming the side of the coast, lost in her voyage
...

A tearful eye have turned away from my dearly beloved
A relief I've crave from the misery of love,
I've let go the dreams I had about you
I've given up on my feelings
...

O mortal sin I forbid!
Pale symbol of corrupt souls
And their yearnings of vile,
The struggle and the daring, I wish to prevail
...

Fetch us more from the well of thy soul
The ink of our fathers dries on our heart
The land is dry and thy people thirst
Rain is for long shot upon the earth
...

And again the moments drive behind us never to return
We pick up the page of today to write a past for our future to read
I use to be the picture of an innocent child
But the tales of life had robbed me of my ignorance
...

To the man with an instrument of war
I write with the heart of a king and of a priest
He is a kind with great and unfamiliar soul
Possessed with the spirit of the poet of old

It's No Love!

O Dearest, Say me well to love…
Make for her a sweet smelling savor
Wipe her tears for she bewail again the fall of her sons
Today, her tent is set afar…
Her cloak is mistaken for valentine.
The glamour of this day holds no sincerity
But for me 'am taking no chances with my life'
The beauty is red, so is the pain
'I saw a thing more bitter than death...'
Thus the cry of the preacher's creed
It's gone before us!
The lamentation of the fallen kings,
Wounds they bore to a day they will never forgive.
Such I forbid, an incurable end!
The blind says its love and the fools set his drums.
Flee a date with the scarlet bait
Today will last no longer than hours.
Pick not the untimely blossom, her trade is much unfair!
The almond trees will bleed, roses will die
And her petals will be gone in the sailing winds
For her guest is an eminent Angel of misery
She is the doom of thy beautiful dreams.
I wept for the errors that come by this day
The breaking dawn of the abominable
Trading destinies since the birth of its lies
Let him; padre of the ancient Rome, a pleasant tale
Saint valentine, the guiltless veil that clad your guilt
Let history guide your pen O friends
For thy love is wrongly spelt
You shall crave the wrath of fate if you defile thy bed.
There is a fall to this end -don't crush the virtues of life.
Oh save thy goblet!
Priestess before the altars of Jerusalem
Save thy crown! Queen in the city of great kings.
Thrones and Altars await thee dear friends...
'Give not thy strength unto women,
-nor thy ways to that which destroy kings'.
Check again this date, perhaps it pays to say never.
