A Postman's Address

It is nineteen eighty seven,
In distant Kokrajhar town,
I am the young postman,
Carrying loads of love and war messages to my countrymen!
Kokrajhar is flowering with 'Baisagu' festival,
I am heartbroken due to leave refusal!
My mother cries at Jorhat town during this'bihu rongali',
Not being able to feed me, my favourite 'pitha tekeli'!
I played my 'siphung' with 'Santravali' tune
With the intention of annihilation
Of foe of human beings.
I prayed to 'Burah Bathou Maharaj'God,
For bringing sunshine of hopes
To the huts of my farmer fellows!
More production and growth of cultivation
Means a lot to end this ethnic agitation!
I have seen her first, weaving in a geloma
Then during the dance 'Bagurumba'!
On a hot summer day
She offered me 'Jou'!
I quench my thirst from this village Girl,
Silkworm'dokhna'made her cheerful
She is my butterfly so colorful!
I prayed to stars and moons
Touching the deity 'Mainao ',
Reverentially bow down to her with a vow,
To make this village girl my postal address for - Today and tomorrow!
