Michelle Tiddy Poems

I heard a song last night
Alone in my car, in the velvet dark
It epitomised my feelings, my reelings
And I began to understand
...

How can our tender hearts
Bear so much pain
Why are we able
To always love again?
...

Swinging on the apple tree
There were you and there was me
Like brother and sister we grew
Cowboys, indians, pirate dreams
...

She's an old lady now
Who gazes out of the window
Counting the birds that fly by
Dreaming of the buttercups of youth
...

A simple case of lack of faith
When you should really have enthused..
And love me and trusted me
Because I am your muse
...

How cruel is fate?
Allowing me to know you
To feel your heart, to cup your pain
To pick you up when you fall down
...

7.

Have you ever felt truly alone?
Well, I do right now
Just lost in my own song
Not knowing anything, anymore
...

When a tiny melody catches your breath
And wonderful lyrics impound your brain
The clarity of a voice stirs your heart
You know you've finally come home
...

Would you like life to be a movie?
Which film would you choose?
Which character would you play?
Happy ending or tragedy...
...

What makes you smile in this world?
Those things that undeniably
Make your lips curl spontaneously
At their sheer beauty?
...

think I've lost faith...
There is no such thing as love
No such thing as the perfect man
Just a bitter-sweet torture
...

Isn't life funny sometimes?
The ups, the downs,
The smiles, the frowns
The utter beautiful confusion
...

Am I the only one, who's scared?
In fear of losing theirself, their identity
Becoming something they didn't mean to be
An anathema of their youth?
...

14.

When you dip your toes in the water of life
Does it excite you? Does the tingle flood you
Right up to the heart and around your mind
Like a whitewater rapid ride? Or is it scary?
...

I think my heart is bleeding
You tore it out you see
Leaving my body unanchored
Drifting, without a dream
...

16.

Slugs and snails and puppy dogs tails
Vanilla smiles and strawberry pails
Lots of faces laughing at me
Is it malice, in their eyes I see?
...

Gently, gently, softly, softly
The sun bathed the pastures in
A golden glow of hope and reflection
A new awakening, a new beginning.
...

Friends are like warriors
That protect your heart with a shield
Wrapping their love around you
Like an invincible cloak of emotions
...

You and I, what are we?
We are children lost in a field of corn
Ever turning, never finding, the exit
Searching, yearning, desperately
...

You burned into my heart, from the moment we met
From the moment you danced upon the page
You see, you made me whole, my heart you stole
And from that moment on, I changed...

Velvet Dark

I heard a song last night
Alone in my car, in the velvet dark
It epitomised my feelings, my reelings
And I began to understand

'I never lost you, you were never mine'
Those words rang true, stung my heart
Driving at one mile per hour
In the velvet dark

I smiled as the lonely tear fell
A wry, upside-down frown
And the music began to painfully soothe
In the velvet dark

You were never, ever mine
To touch, to feel, just a ghost
Of a promise, whom I would never see
In the velvet dark

Lucky those roads were quiet
No crazed drivers forcing me on
And I pulled into a hidden corner
In the velvet dark

Your heart wasn't mine
To try to hold and to repair
You needed me and I needed you
In the velvet dark

We tried to make it
Through impossible barriers
Of dreams and hopes, spinning uncontrollably
In the velvet dark

Picking up my emotions
I pulled back onto that road
Moving towards my home, my sanity
In the velvet dark

I never lost you, I'll never lose you
I'll just remember, the good times
There were a few heady nights together
In the velvet dark

So, this song I will remember
For bringing home to me
The truth, the bitter-sweet memories
Forever in the velvet dark
