Michael Nkwocha Poems

I'd rather have a friend so true
than wine and dine with kings.
I'd rather have a friend faithful
than walk all day with nobles.
...

Why pray to God for providence
then shut our eyes to our neighbour's needs?
Why pray 'Lord shelter the homeless'
then shut our door against the stranger?
...

We are all companions together
for we journey through life to eternity
in life no one walks alone
for the Father's love has made us one.
...

Arise o sleeper
wake up to the morning song-
the sweet melodies of the birds
the cloud so bright and clear
...

I have a guardian angel
given to me by God
he always stays beside me
and never goes away
...

A candle glows in each of us
the love of God did light
to us He gives the pow'r to tend
to care and keep abright.
...

I say my yes to You dear Lord
though weak and fainting be my heart
for fear I'd never keep my word
but yes I say and yes I mean.
...

Here o Lord my body lay
the day soon spent, the night has come
when morning comes may I arise
with heart refreshed and strength renewed.
...

Behold the singing of the birds,
the whistling of the leaves;
behold the rushes of the sea -
the love of God proclaim.
...

There are things the heart cannot know
depths the mind cannot grasp
till we're wrapped up in Your light
till we rest in You o Lord.
...

I dare to plant a seed today
full of dreams, full of promises
though I die before it fruits
the eater's joy may my labours bring.
...

Roses are fading, the grasses too
the winter's frost, the springtime flowers
all as though they never were.
The sky, bright and blue
...

No scolding for the wounded heart
no rod, no blows for the straying sheep.
No! Bind the wounded heart
on shoulders raise the straying sheep
...

Not too small, not too small
only five loaves, five thousand fed.
Not too small, not too small
with just two fish, and much left over.
...

Tarry no more brother
tarry no more sister
the shades already falling
souls are straying, time is fleeting
...

Ah! How poorly You are thought of
who thinks of everyone
adn even when I think of You
it's only for a little while.
...

Tyrant, oppressor
man becomes to fellow man
yet in no time he'd be still in the grave.
What be the use o fempty boasts
...

A Treasure

I'd rather have a friend so true
than wine and dine with kings.
I'd rather have a friend faithful
than walk all day with nobles.
I'd rather have a friend loving
than live in a house of gold.
I'd rather have a friend caring
than a world wide fame
I'd rather have a friend as you
than have the whole world in my hands.
