Forgive My Guilt

I'm not so sure of this concept called sin
But I think I have an idea.
If sin is a terrible thing that you have done,
That you have regretted,
Then I am sure of one sin that I have done.
It was from when I was just a child.
I was with my grandfather early in the morning.
We sat and enjoyed nature,
But we were waiting for a meal to approach.
When we saw it I was over joyed.
I looked at it face to face,
Our eyes meeting,
But it had no idea what I was about to do.
I slowly and quietly lifted a metal object
And pulled the cold trigger of the weapon that kills.

I did this, and later I went back
I was alone this time, sitting under a tree.
Enjoying the beauty of nature,
But the only being to greet me was silence.
I was the only breathing creature.
Then I saw it, the kind I once slaughtered.
I looked at it, and calmly
Asked it without saying a word,
As if I hoped it could read my mind
If it would forgive my guilt.
