Meshack Sewe Poems

My heart was a vessel
Hungry for a morsel
My soul was cold
As dreams of the old
...

Created by God;
In his Godly image;
Blessed with a woman;
Blessed to prosper;
...

I’m a spoiled child, my dad is Bill
Our kingdom great, we masters of thrill…
My conception on a desktop, in a hard wheezing disk;
My delivery, through a window, dodging swine-virus risk;
...

Born by a woman, born in the neighborhood
Fed by a woman, through tough livelihood
Raised by a woman, all through childhood
Married to a woman, enjoying your manhood
...

A hard bone....... I beg to pick…
With those whose hearts no poet can prick
If I serve my poems on plates of pain
Will they miss its contents so bare as plain?
...

If you try too hard

And your luck remains bad
...

Books in front of me…
I stared through the window…
Uncertainty, hit me with a blow…
Persistent yawns I tried to suppress…
...

Niongeapo na waTanga,

Wengi hucheka wakitanga,
...

It was yesterday, I was a tiny seed…
Planted in a soil so warm… a soil void of any weed
Nine months under the earth were never in vain…
Finally germinating amidst trumpets of pain
...

Love, help my hands write…
A poem that whispers loud
With melodies full of moisture as cloud
With lyrics that never fails to caress
...

Isn’t that a choked voice… from your silted tunnel?
How cramp and lifeless… is your power kernel!
Isn’t life ever a contrast…..as the shape of a funnel?
Stop now and fight….for your breathing channel!
...

Inside, I stumble, my drunken soul, threatens to wither
Breathless, my eyes I close, life’s puzzles I dither

On a singing clock, blankly, I plant my naked stare
...

Not long ago, you sunk in health
Painting our lives with colors of wealth
But sickness came, with a scary stealth
Now sinking in bed, struggling for breath
...

Ooh…what will be the signs…..before my time knocks?
Will my caller yawn loudly ….as giant city clocks?
Will signals be hidden…as a king’s torn socks?
Will I crack in pieces…as cursed building blocks?
...

Romancing ants’ nakedness exposed …..Victims of a hen’s impunity scratches

Cheeky chicks rapping and raping….with no memories of hatches
A die-hard fights back…its scissor-blades shearing with vengeance
...

I’m neck-less….never romancing with stars!
I’m wing-less…never partying in Mars
I’m height-less… never shopping for high heels
I’m weight-less…never minding how it feels!
...

Ooh..Imprisoned Poet..
Why strain your pen with pieces so novel and intricate.....?
Belittling natural nectar that charms souls to communicate?
Ooh..Imprisoned Poet..
...

Dreams of my fertile morning…pregnant with rays of sunshine!
Drinking pains of joy… as a bedding soiled by lovers' spilt wine!
Dreams of a morning sun…peeping with a handmade smile!
Morning dews hiding…brightness sending darkness a mile
...

Vultures patching on political clouds…not bothered by underdog weights!
God gracious! How grand are your heavenly gates!
Blood-stained claws thirsty for human meat…milking dry your Earthly mates!
Menus void of world’s bitter herbs…delicacies dance in your silver plates!
...

I had a Desert dream…
Devouring seedless Kalahari dates!
I journeyed through a hot sand-filled stream
Thirst burnt my throat… with passions of first love dates

I'm Not Happy

My heart was a vessel
Hungry for a morsel
My soul was cold
As dreams of the old
My cries were null
As tears of a water-fall…..
Then all was history
Your love my story
…But now I'm unhappy…
Because you're away…..

On that May,
On that day,
Amidst blink-less eyes,
Witnessing our love-lit fires
Our fingers were lifted
Blessed rings fitted
Sweet vows exchanged
No longer engaged…
Our union was merry
…..But now I'm unhappy…
Because you are away…

Last time you came….
My happiness I couldn't name!
Our boy on your arm
Your smile was charm
We kissed and hugged
Sad moments were mugged!
Your presence, sweet flowers!
Our laughers, hot showers!
……But now I'm unhappy…
……Because you are away…

What is it in the heart that great minds cannot read?
What is it in the minds that great hearts cannot heed?
My soul coldly burns thy memories closer
I reach for my phone with the zeal of a grocer
Your voice so real …touches me to the bone
The background so a live my pains all gone
But the line goes dead….. All time is spent
I lie on bed, sadly coiled like a serpent
Another time has come… for my long lonely night
YES, I'M UNHAPPY…
…..BECAUSE YOU ARE AWAY
