Kevin Condron Poems

My Lai village, Vietnam
Visited by Uncle Sam
In the name of peace they said
But shots rang out and all lay dead
...

An evening sky
And stars come into view
Their light shines out from time long past
And all at once I think you
...

I take a breath, the air is cold
Fluids pass through me and I have awareness
A nervous twitch, a shudder and I blink my eye
A stretch a yawn, awaking from my sleep
...

4.

Dad

I had laughter and hope, I had joy
And the darkness was never that bad
...

Random thoughts appear and I dismiss them
Lying to myself, I carry on
A sudden pause brings moods of desolation
Knowing that my Dad has really gone
...

So very tough and very proud
He sings his anthem very loud
His sensitivity is nil
SAS and trained to kill
...

Awareness dawns, sounds and light, thoughts are numb
A twitch, a roll a stagger and he`s up
A mirror`s gaze but no reflection
A splash of water and ablutions are complete
...

Unreal, K.Condron

There was asleep it went awake
Genuine became a fake
...

To feel the wind, the rain, the sun
And pause to watch a starlit sky
...

A dance through life as if it's just a game
Assumed like minded people felt the same

To grab at life and shake it by the tail
...

There were two people who thought the same
About Life and love and life's real game
Art and music and the state of play
Ideal soul mates in every way
...

You can walk a path through trees and fields
and gaze at cirrus clouds up high
And thoughts may pass through my mind at speed
of pleasant times gone bye
...

Tortured years of living hell
Isolated in a cell
Never knowing day from night
Always artificial light
...

Gentle breezes,
Waves are lapping on the shore
The sky a darkened blue,
A first star for the evening
...

17.

There was a time when there was not
Not a where a when or what
All at once, we find we`re here
Full awareness, hope and fear
...

Time spreads out an endless ocean
Instant moments, imitate eternal joy
The world perceives you as a man
But deep inside your`e still a boy
...

Dusk, the light is fading in the east
A star shines in the darkened sky
The air is warm and all is still
A goat descends to lowland grasses
...

My Lai Village, Vietnam 1968

My Lai village, Vietnam
Visited by Uncle Sam
In the name of peace they said
But shots rang out and all lay dead

Women, children on the ground
Troops used nearly every round
Hundreds killed, then some asked why
So many people had to die

It made the news and some were sad
Patriotic folk were glad
No-one guilty and no blame
Selective rules to play this game
