Katherine Tylor McCall Poems

well katrina gave em the old one-two
as weather down south is wont to do
so they put that foot in the other shoe
and kept a-right on marching
...

Her streets gleam not, but lie in disrepair
The sun does shimmer down through smog of grey
A stench sometimes does filter through the air
The lanes for cars, they go naught but one way
...

My continent cries tears of blood and rain,
Her sons and daughters by the millions die;
Each country does it's heard rear up in pain
While children for their mothers, countless, cry.
...

Well I' been sittin' thinkin' here,
Sippin' on a pint O' beer,
Wonderin' why she went an' left me all alone.
...

We had no choice but to sell the house,
Well, the land on which it sits at least.

Our huge wooded lot a fool might accuse us of wasting-
...

Just a man,
Just a being,
Some humble creature of evolution.
To what does he owe this endless toil?
...

Her tail shimmers as she darts across the crystal sea.
Her lovely hair does seem to glimmer,
Tantalizing me.
This lovely creature all alone,
...

Thou shalt not hate,
For Hate is Death,
And Death is a horrid thing.
So Hate and Death are partners-
...

Get along, little doggy-
To that great big bye-and-bye,
Herdin' Cattle 'cross them clouds-
On that ranch up in the sky,

A Texas Ballad March

well katrina gave em the old one-two
as weather down south is wont to do
so they put that foot in the other shoe
and kept a-right on marching

in texas year o 1836
blood spattered all over those alamo bricks
and they lost the day and nothin got fixed
yet old texas marched along

well a cold-front came down here today
a cold front headed for the galveston bay
then right back up on houston way
but my texas kept the march

a day of dusty road out west
till its miles o nothin where heat dont rest
at the corner of no and where or less
theres old texas morching on

well the rio grande aint over-wide
bare thick as the borders on each side
even with a few pesos and a waitin ride
beware those texans ever marching
telescopes in marfa show those lights too far to see
in shining-empty sprawling cities glow the gulfs refineries
while endless miles o dusty nothin swath the west without reprieve
\sweet Texas, my texas great land of free mens victory
With soaring hearts we see thee rise
our true south strong and free.
O texas know,
I'll stand on guard for thee.
